Our city does not have great industries, but it has hills for skiing in the winter and winding roads along which one can ride a bicycle in the summer. Bauska hotels

Archaeologists have found evidences for the possible settlement in the confluence of the Rivers Musa and Memele.
In this settlement people lived about 3500 years ago. In 1594 there was built the first known concrete building in the Town – the Church of Holy Spirit what at that time belonged to the German congregation.
At the end of the 16th century and in the beginning of the 17th century Bauska grew rapidly as a centre of merchants and craftsmen of the Dukedom. There formed the street planning of the present Old Town.
The year of granting the rights of a Town for Bauska is not known and most often as the foundation year of the Town is considered the year of 1609 when the Duke Friedrich made a present of seal with the picture of lion to Bauska. During the time of the Duke Friedrich Bauska obtained all the attributes and privileges characteristic for towns of that time: in 1615 – the privilege to construct the Town Council Building, in 1635 the Rules of Order.

Ventspils (IPA: [ventspi:ls], pronunciation; German: Windau) is a city in northwestern Latvia on the coast of the Baltic Sea. It is named after the Venta River, which passes through the city. Ventspils had a population of 43,806 in 2006. Ventspils developed from a castle of the Livonian Order and was first mentioned in chronicles in 1290. It was chartered in 1314 and became an important mercantile city of the Hanseatic League. Ventspils is an important ice-free port. Large amounts of oil and other mineral resources from Russia are loaded aboard ships at Ventspils. The revenue from port services has made Ventspils the wealthiest city in Latvia. Thirty kilometres north of Ventspils is the ex-Soviet radioastronomy installation VIRAC (Ventspils Starptautiskais Radioastronomijas Centrs or Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre). The existence of the Centrs was unknown to most Latvians until the withdrawal of the Soviets at the end of occupation in 1994.

Valmiera is the largest city of the historical Vidzeme region, Latvia, with a total area of 18.1 km². It is the center of the Valmiera district, or county (Latvian: Valmieras rajons). As of 2002, Valmiera had a population of 27,323.
It lies at the crossroads of several important roads, 100 km to the north-east from Riga, the capital of Latvia, and 50 km south of the border with Estonia. Valmiera lies on both banks of the Gauja River. Valmiera and its surroundings have been one of the longest-inhabited regions of Latvia. Archeological evidence indicates the site was inhabited 9,000 years ago. Valmiera was first mentioned as a town in a chronicle dating back to 1323. The actual founding of the town probably occurred at least 40 years earlier when the master of the Livonian Order Wilken von Endorp constructed a castle (Wolmar) and Catholic church on the banks of the river Gauja. Valmiera was a member of the Hanseatic League from the 14th-16th centuries. Involvement in the Hansa brought significant trade and movement into the town’s life.
